Shortlists! The Arrival of Missives has had a really great year for being on them, and it’s a bit like attending a party filled with people you’ve always admired: a little nerve-wracking, but astonishing to think the bouncers let you in and you’re allowed to even be in the room without somebody calling the police.
This time around I’m pretending to be cool while rubbing shoulders with Cassandra Khaw, Victor LaValle, VH Leslie, Gary McMahon and Seanan McGuire on the BFS Awards shortlist for Best Novella. The winner will be announced at the BFA Banquet, which takes place at the end of FantasyCon. It is in Peterborough this year. I’m even hoping to attend the actual banquet, and not just the simile banquet.
